Promoting HepN-BD Vaccination
According to findings, Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is the leading cause of liver cancer in Africa. Of children infected with HBV at birth, 90% remain infected for life. Of newborns with chronic hepatitis B infection, 1 in 4 are at risk for premature death from HBV related liver disease and cancer. A timely dose of hepatitis B birth dose (HepB-BD) vaccine to newborns prevents transmission of HBV. However, less than 1 in 5 newborns receive a timely HepB-BD vaccine in the African region.
Our organization is dedicated to expanding the reach and impact of routine immunization, and universal Hepatitis B (HepB) vaccination, with a specific focus on increasing vaccination rates among newborns in the northern region. Our goal is to scale up HepB-BD (birth dose) vaccination, ensuring that every newborn receives this critical vaccine at birth, providing protection against hepatitis B infection and its lifelong consequences.
In the long term, we aim to create a modern, drug-free center to promote a drug-free community by establishing a central point to provide comprehensive care services and education in the community.
Together, we can create a healthier, more resilient future for the people of Northern Ghana and beyond.
To improve awareness of the importance of HepB-BD vaccination among pregnant persons, their families, health care workers (HCWs) and public and policy makers.
To build trust with community members in health promotions for infant immunization, hepatitis B immunization or maternal child health.
By scaling up HepB-BD vaccination, we can significantly reduce the incidence of hepatitis B infection, liver disease, and liver cancer, and improve the health and well-being of future generations.
